Check the property before reading a number
A sc-domain: property can include several subdomains. If you want one site, select its URL-prefix property when available or request an exact page filter. A domain-wide total is not the traffic of a single subdomain. Confirm the property, inclusive dates, search filters and device before comparing numbers.
Search Console reports Google Search performance, not sessions, sales or conversions. Use Google Analytics for available site-traffic questions, and keep the two measurements distinct.
Read the metrics together
- Clicks: visits initiated from a Google Search result under the report's definitions.
- Impressions: times a result appeared, not visits or unique people.
- CTR: clicks divided by impressions. Interpret it alongside the query, page, device and average position.
- Average position: an aggregate ranking measure, not a promise that every searcher sees one fixed rank.
High impressions with low CTR can justify reviewing a page's title, snippet and match to search intent. It does not by itself prove that the title caused the low CTR. Position, device mix and query intent may also differ.
Three focused prompts
Find a page to review
“For the selected property and last 28 complete days, show returned pages with impressions but few clicks. Include clicks, impressions, CTR and position. State row limits and propose three manual checks.”
Compare two periods
“Run the same page report for two equal date ranges with identical filters, each within the supported 90-day limit. Show the measured differences and do not claim a cause.”
Review search intent
“For this exact page URL, show available query rows and explain which queries match the page's answer. Identify missing query data rather than guessing the hidden terms.”
Avoid false conclusions from partial data
Google may hide low-volume queries for privacy. TalkToData returns bounded top rows, not a full export. Query rows may not add up to property or page totals, and missing rows do not mean zero activity. Recent Google data may be incomplete. A URL without performance rows is not necessarily unindexed; verify indexing directly in Search Console.
Before calling something an opportunity, record the exact URL, query or dimension, period, filters and sample size. Compare like with like. A small impression count is an early signal, not a statistically reliable trend.
Turn an insight into a verifiable SEO task
Use the returned data to write a brief that names the page, observed query intent, current title and content to inspect, proposed change, internal links to check, and how results will be measured after Google recrawls. Make the change on the website, then monitor the same property and filters later. Ranking improvements are not guaranteed.
TalkToData's Search Console connection is read-only. It does not request indexing, submit a sitemap, change a property or edit a page. For setup and reconnect instructions, use the connection guide. For broader business questions, read the business-data guide.
Questions before you connect
Can TalkToData show the exact reason a page has low CTR?
No. CTR is an observed ratio. The connector can show the returned performance rows and suggest checks, but it cannot prove a cause from Search Console data alone.
Why do query totals differ from page totals?
Google may hide low-volume queries and TalkToData caps returned rows. Do not add partial query rows and treat them as complete property totals.
Can I analyze only one subdomain?
Select its verified URL-prefix property if available, or use an exact page filter. A domain property can include other subdomains.
Can the connector request indexing or change my website?
No. The Search Console actions read authorized performance data; indexing and website edits require separate actions outside this connector.
